The 2008 season of squirt boating was pretty incredible and the season was very successful. The early season on the Potomac provided many opportunities to squirt the high water thru Mather Gorge. Rocky Island, O'deck, Center Chute, Madder & Madder, Skull Island, Top Secret, and Dead Cow hole are among the many play spots. This spring I attended the BubblerFest on the New River. This is a great gathering of my squirt boating buddies down near Blacksburg, Va. New Gathering of Friends
Squirted the cheat narrows for CheatFest.
This summer the Fishbowl, Bermuda Triangle, and Simple Pleasures season on the Potomac lasted most of the summer. Bermuda Triangle seems to have changed a little. There's a new rock not so deep in the upstream fringes. This rock only seems to come into play at higher level like 2.90 and above. We've been experimenting with higher levels at Bermuda, seems if you're careful with the upstream charc very decent not scary rides are possible. Josh, Dan, Eric, and Jeremy have been down to sample the Potomac goods on several occasions. Steve Graybill has been a motivator to get me out squirting a lot. My neighbors Sarah and John have also been influential. Here's a guide to Potomac Squirting. Potomac Squirt Guide
The highlight of the summer squirt season is always Jimicup. Joel D, JohnBell, and I traveled up to the Ottawa in John's Sprinter van running on veggie oil. Spent the week sinking, sipping suds, and swatting bugs. Joel and I did our best ever in the nerf golf, 3rd place. We had a big camp, Tim, Weaver, and Andy joined our crew for meals and daily shuttles. Smoothie was as good as ever, tapped the bottom a couple of times that week, lots of great mystery moves. Jimicup
In August, the Portland Oregon crew called me out for an extended mystery tour. Got to sample the Squirt Ranch, the Weasel, Southern Pacific, and Champagne Jam.
My favorite was the Weasel with its chilly but very clear water.
Gauleyfest weekend I squirted Sweet Cheeks and Junk Yard aka Trash Compacter. The hike into and out of Pillow Rock is tough but worth it. Trash Compactor is easy access park and sink. Beware of getting locked inside the gate.
This fall the Potomac has remained at pretty good squirt levels only briefly dropping below fun levels. I've been placing lots of photo's and videos onto Scott Weaver's Sinkspots site this fall.
It's getting chilly now, time to switch to cross country skiing.
